The mysterious 'White Lady" is said to haunt Prestatyn seafront

If you go for a stroll along the promenade in Prestatyn at night you might just get more than you bargained for.

North Wales has a plethora of supposed haunted locations but possibly one of the most commonly seen ghosts in the region is the so-called “White Lady of Prestatyn”.

Over the years dozens of residents and holidaymakers claim to have spotted the tall figure of the White Lady of Prestatyn roaming the promenade.

The spectre is said to wear a long flowing white dress and is seen walking or floating during twilight hours between Rhyl and Prestatyn, often near the Nova Centre.

It’s not known who the mysterious woman is, however many believe that she could be a nun.

Some have even reported that she walks with her head buried in a book – perhaps a bible – but terrifyingly some say she has no face.

Angela Hewitt said: “We used to come on holiday to Prestatyn regularly in the 1990s and stop in a caravan.

“Me and my partner at the time were having a wander down the promenade, watching the sunset, and we saw this girl all in white walking.

“We didn’t really think anything of it, until she just suddenly disappeared.

“I wasn’t really bothered by it at the time, but when we got back to the caravan park and mentioned it, a lady told us about the White Lady of Prestatyn, and it really scared me.

“Safe to say we didn’t go for any late night walks down the prom again.”

People strolling along the promenade have reported feeling a sense of unease before she appears and some have even heard faint singing.

While dog walkers who have seen the apparition have told how their animals have become so scared that they run away.

One Rhyl man claims that many years ago he was walking his dog when she appeared in front of him.

Within moments his dog started to shiver and whine and refused to move so the owner scooped him up in his arms.

If the story is to be believed the ghostly figure turned around and began walking towards him and the dog and the canine jumped out of his owner’s arms and ran off in the opposite direction.

However, many in the town believe the White Lady of Prestatyn to be a friendly spook who means no harm and for most she is seen for just a matter of seconds.

It’s not known why she haunts the promenade, but if legend is to be believed she threw herself into the sea and died and is not able to find her way to the other side.

My son lives in Prestatyn, in a house right on the beach front and he walks miles around that stretch of coastline. He has never mentioned anything about this but I will ask him when I see him. Interesting.
