Planning process started to bring German food giant to Prestatyn

PLANS for a Lidl store in Prestatyn are in process.

The German food giant submitted proposals for the store – to be built on the former council depot at Parc Dyffryn, behind Prestatyn Bus Station – to Denbighshire County Council. The new store is expected to create about 40 jobs.

The site is currently home to the vacant depot, made up of two warehouse buildings. The chain wants to demolish all existing buildings on the area in order to develop the 2,454 sq m supermarket.

A Screening Opinion has been submitted to the authority; Lidl is asking if the project requires an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) ahead of lodging a full planning application.

Stuart Jardine, Lidl’s Head of Property in the UK, said: “We’re pleased to have submitted our proposals for Prestatyn to Denbighshire County Council.

“We believe a store in Prestatyn would benefit the local area in a number of positive ways. The development would enable the regeneration of a key, town centre site and prevent it from falling into further decline and create a substantial number of new jobs for the local area.”

Lidl revealed in February its interest in Prestatyn. A consultation event was attended by about 50 people.

Store proposals include 104 car parking spaces - including disabled and parent and child spaces - and an in-store bakery.
