Ambulance to be stationed at holiday parks

Post by Keith » 3 years ago

A special ambulance will be stationed at popular holiday parks this summer to ease pressure on local health services.

The treatment centre will be based at Butlins and Fantasy Island in Ingoldmells during the peak tourist season.

It follows a successful trial last year by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

The move is designed to reduce pressure on local health services during the summer when the population in the Skegness area significantly increases with visitors.

The purpose built ambulance provides a mobile treatment centre with seating for the patient in the centre of the vehicle. It allows medical staff to work in an environment similar to an A&E cubicle.

The vehicle, which will also spend time at the Golden Sands Resort in Mablethorpe, is expected to be in place during Easter, May Bank Holidays and from June to September.

It will be manned by an emergency care practitioner able to treat medical conditions and injury.

Butlins resort director Chris Baron said: “The ambulance gives reassurance for people to know it there, particularly as some visitors have existing health conditions they may be worried about.”

A spokesman for EMAS said: “This approach was successful in 2014 with many holidaymakers being treated in the facility meaning they avoided an unnecessary trip to A&E.

“We’re pleased to be operating the scheme again in 2015 and confident that it’ll again prove to be beneficial for those who need treatment for a medical condition or injury.”

The treatment unit will operate all week, at Fantasy Island from noon to 3pm and Butlins from 3pm to 6pm.

Perhaps BL could consider helping to fund this excellent idea. Could also roll it out to other Parks.

Ambulance was based at Golden Sands last season during the busy period & was successful in helping response times & dealing with injuries.
Often an ambulance had just left site when another had to be called previously.

I made use of the ambulance on site at golden sands last year when I broke my toe playing football on the beach.

It was such a relief seeing the ambulance parked on site and I was treated and on my way in 15 mins a brilliant service.

Well done emas and bl

When Rank owned Haven the building that is now our ranger station used to be the parks medical centre. We had a nurse on site during 'Office hours' and a GP would visit and hold a surgery 2-3 time a week.

Oh, the good old days

What a brilliant idea.

Those were the days when holiday parks had a nurse, a hairdressers and nursery nurses who used to patrol the chalets at night. "Baby crying in chalet 29" :hello1:

I think this is something that should be rolled out across all parks - its a very different kettle of fish to who has a
lazy river, who has an owners lounge. Stroke victims and heart attacks especially benefit from early, fast treatment. A few of us were only discussing this the other day - what happened to the first aid repsponse team? Needs to be on all sites not just a few.

I do know EMAS gets slated for slow response times but then Lincolnshire is a huge County with many miles of roads that are not fast ie very few major roads/motorways.
Often ambulances are located across the County at various points, in fact one sits in the car park near our home awaiting a call on the radio.

A doctor used to be on site at Devon Cliffs on certain days of the week. There used to be a surgery there but that's a long time ago when my children were little.
