Microsoft partners with Butlins for science weekends

Post by Keith » 1 year ago

Tech giant Microsoft is the latest partner to sign up for Butlins’ Astonishing Family Science Weekends in 2016.

The tech giant joins science experts from organisations including the Science Museum, the National Space Centre, Aardman Animations and L’Oréal for the themed activity weekends.

The Astonishing Family Science Weekends will take place on April 15 at Butlins Bognor Regis; June 10 at Butlins Skegness; and September 16 at Butlins Minehead.

The Microsoft workshops will teach children and their parents how to design, create and play a computer game in less than 60 minutes and programme a BBC micro:bit – a small codeable computer.

Dave Coplin, chief envisioning officer at Microsoft, said: “At Microsoft, we’re committed to helping people of all ages learn the fundamentals of computing while engaging in fun projects to create incredible results.

“We believe that computers and coding should become a literacy much like mathematics is today.”

Dermot King, Butlins managing director, added: “We are thrilled to have such a well-respected and innovative technology brand as Microsoft on board who understand the importance of supporting, encouraging and inspiring the next generation of young scientists.

“STEM subjects, and specifically coding, are such hot topics, so our aim is to fuse them with all the fun and entertainment that you’d expect at one of our family breaks and provide an environment where families can learn together.”

• Echo & The Bunnymen, Shed Seven, Cast, Black Grape, The Wonder Stuff, The Bluetones and others have been announced for Shiiine On Weekender 2016 (November 11-14) at Butlins Minehead Resort.

The festival showcases indie and dance music alongside new bands.
